A New Day Option
from September 2024
We are delighted to announce that we will be opening a day house in September 2024.

The day house will be named Li Kwok Po House, named after pioneering OU Dr the Honourable Sir David Li Kwok Po. It will be more commonly known as Li House.
For children who live locally, being a day pupil at Uppingham offers the perfect blend of a truly expansive and holistic education with the flexibility of going home every day.
Day pupils have the same outstanding educational experience as boarders - the same exceptional pastoral care, academic challenge and support, and life-enriching co-curricular opportunities - but return to their family home each evening.
We believe in the transformative power of education and are thrilled to be able to respond to local demand for a genuinely all-round education with the opening of our day house.
LI KWOK PO HOUSE
Li House will be the pupils’ home from home with a host of supportive role models who will know the children very well.
The House’s family set-up is exactly the same as it is in our boarding houses - the only difference is that staff and pupils return to their homes at the end of the day.
Each house has a House Parent, supported by a Deputy House Parent, responsible for overseeing each pupil’s pastoral care, academic progress and co-curricular involvement in the School.
Every pupil is part of one of Uppingham's traditionally small tutor groups. Tutors join the House for lunch, supervise prep and regularly meet their tutees one-to-one.

Making sure there is always a friendly face to greet and support the children no matter what time of day, Li House will have two matrons who play a key role in pupil welfare and pastoral care.
Together, they create a caring and supportive community with a strong sense of House identity.
2024 FORWARD
Our architects are sensitively remodelling and re-purposing a beautiful Seventeenth Century building around Twenty-First Century children’s needs in readiness for September 2024.
Li House will be a place of friendship, care and encouragement. With welcoming and thoughtfully designed spaces to unwind, refuel, check-in with their house family, study, shower and store their essential things.
It is superbly located close to the heart of the main school campus, making it easy for pupils to return to it throughout the school day.
BEST OF BOTH WORLDS
Our day pupils have opportunities to enrich their lives and cultivate new talents, passions and interests unrivalled by day schools.
Their timetable is the same as the boarders during the day – a stimulating combination of lessons, sport and co-curricular activities.
During the week the school day begins at 08.15 with registration, with the house open from 07.30. Breakfast is available for early birds. Day pupils can choose to go home after lessons or stay into the early evening to make the most of all the opportunities available to them. Li House closes at 19.00.
On Saturday, morning lessons are followed by an early lunch and a full sporting programme. The House will be open from 8.00 until 18.00, but day pupils may leave when their commitments have ended. On Sunday, day pupils are not expected at school unless there are organised activities or events, although these will only happen on a few occasions.
AN UPPINGHAMIAN FOR LIFE
The experiences, education and opportunities we provide create wonderfully bright, rounded, curious and engaged individuals who are well equipped for dynamic and fulfilling lives beyond school.
Nigel Breakwell
Housemaster
Nigel Breakwell will be the inaugural Housemaster of Uppingham’s first day house, assuming the role from September 2024.
